Blogging Prompt 1: Autobiography

Hello everyone!  My name is Mark, and I am originally from Cherry Hill, NJ.  I am currently enrolled in the A. James Clark engineering school at UMD as a bioengineer - - a profession that combines both the qualities of an engineer and a biologist.
Due to my affinity for math and the sciences, I am not particularly fond of writing and grammar.  I do not mind writing papers that are relevant to biology, but I despise composing essays graded by an English professor (no offense to Ms. Carolyn Ureña of course).  For the most part, I am usually confident in my writing skills, and always submit my best work.  That does not go to say, though, that I do not like others to proof read my essays; on the contrary, I welcome criticism and second opinions.  By the end of the semester, I hope to be able to enrich my writing through the use of figures of speech, as well as a diverse and complex array of vocabulary.  I also wish to be able to portray a view and reinforce it with data and facts - - a necessary skill for when I start publishing research papers for my future profession as an engineer.

  1. Hey Mark! I think it's so cool that you are studying to be a bioengineer... my roommate is in that major as well. I'm a KNES major and I would prefer a math or science course over English too!

  2. Hi, Mark! Haha -- No offense taken! Writing for school isn't everyone's favorite activity, but I hope we can make writing a bit more fun than usual in our class! I think you have a great attitude when it comes to the process -- we'll be doing peer-editing and revision, and yes, these skills will definitely come in handy down the line when you start publishing. Write on!

  3. Hey Mark!
Wow I would never be able to do bioengineering haha. After taking biology in high school, I knew that I wouldn't want to go towards that career. But good luck to you, especially since you're doing engineering with it!

    Much love,
    Jason

  5. Hey Mark, again! I had a typo and didn't know how to fix it without deleting and reposting, so I'm posting my feedback again!

Being open to criticism and welcoming it is really admirable of you. I know I personally am nervous when people read my papers and don't always consider their criticism helpful. So props! It's also really good you're very confident in your writing skills and always turn in your best work! I find it very difficult to be completely satisfied with my final drafts even after countless revision. Hopefully your positive traits will rub onto the rest of us!

  6. What's up?! Bioengineering sounds tight. What do you want to make. Organs? Mutants? Mutant organs?!?

How practical is it to bioengineer a chair?
